Pictured below is a Dairy Farm operating near the Haitian border in the Dominican Republic. The dairy employs several immigrant workers from Haiti. The philanthropist.org team was not able to profile the owner of the farm as he was off on business (milk is delivered via donkey or horse) at the time of the site visit. According to the workers (pictured here) they have to carry water by hand a great distance to the dairy from a nearby stream. The Dairy Owner is looking to build a pipeline to carry the water directly to the Farm. The farm has sporatic electricity access and operates using a gas-powered generator (truck engine) and cooling system (a re-purposed old air-conditioner), and the wages of these dairy workers are less than a few dollars per day. Philanthropist.org expects to profile the dairy owner during the next micro-finance field study to better understand his growth capital requirements and access to banking resources.
