This morning on CNBC, Pepsi CEO Indra Nooyi was talking about the Pepsi Refresh Project, a program in which the food and beverage company will be awarding millions in grants from everyday people. Coincidentally or not, near the same time this morning, Super Bowl and Pro Bowl quarterback Drew Brees was talking on the Mike and Mike in the Morning show on ESPN about his involvement with the program, specifically his sponsorship of a project to raise money for Hope Lodge, a home for cancer patients when traveling to receive treatment. Him and some other football players are rallying for votes, as the winners project will receive $100,000.
This is an interesting idea from Pepsi, having people online vote for the projects they want to see funded most. Of course the marketing doesn’t hurt, particularly the help from NFL players. They’ve created a a nice user-experience online and placed the power of grant funding into the hands of their customers. It is necessary to sign up with Pepsi in order to place your vote. Also, ideas for the month of February have already met the limit, but Pepsi allows users to work on their application now, save it, and submit the idea March 1, 2010. Good luck to those who submit their ideas!
